The sustainability of the the Take Action Already Center, and the capacity of our Safe House depends in part on the generosity of our donors. Though we have experienced successes thus far, as one of very few women´s Safe Houses that exist in Nicaragua (and the only one that exists in Estelí), we currently lack the resources needed to reach out to all Nicaraguan women living in violence. Our plan for 2008 is to expand our space, services, and outreach areas.

According to the Interamerican Development Bank, 52% of women in Managua (and 60% according to non-governmental organizations) suffer from domestic violence at the hands of their partner.
Domestic violence costs the state $26.5 million dollars annually (1.6% of the GDP) in lost work time alone.
30% of the women that suffered from abuse in 1997 were hospitalized, and of those 15% needed complex or invasive surgery.
In the neighborhood Cuba Libre in Managua, 95% of aggressive action taken against women occurs in a domestic setting; 53% of these beatings occur when the man is drunk, and 47% of them are motivated by ¨male jealousy.¨
